I'm back online!

Woohoo! I think I was going through withdrawals or something, lol. My computer crashed on me last Saturday night. I was trying to install Norton Antivirus and apparently I did something wrong because I got that blue screen of death, and the computer wouldn't boot, even in safe mode. I thought I'd just start in safe mode, uninstall Norton and go on my way. Riiight. Couldn't get that far.

So I spent an hour on the phone with Dell tech support trying to get my computer working. No such luck. He told me he'd send me the disk to reinstall Windows and the disk with the drivers and such on it. The package arrived Tuesday. With one disk. Sigh. So I reinstalled Windows. Great. Still couldn't get online, and finally came to the conclusion it was because I didn't have any modem drivers. Back on the phone with tech support. This guy said he'd send me the *whole* package, and sure enough, I received 3 disks today - the operating system, the resource disk (with the drivers) and another disk with some applications on it or something, I don't know. I was more interested in getting my internet working, lol. So here I am! Yay for me!

In other news, some of you may have read on the BB a couple weeks ago that I lost my work badge somewhere between the train, Walmart and home. After about a week, I decided I'd better report it lost and get a new one. So I went to my supervisor and got the forms, but was procrastinating on filing the police report. (For those who don't know, I work for the county and my badge is considered county property. If you lose it or it gets stolen, you must file a police report to get a new one.) Yesterday, I got an email from my supervisor telling me to contact HR about my badge. Woohoo! Of course, the lady in HR was gone for the day by then, but I went over there first thing this morning and got my badge back. Thank God for the lovely person who found it and dropped it in a mailbox per the instructions on the back! HR gave me a new cord for it, but I liked the old one better. And I did get a teasing rebuke by my supervisor not to lose it again! Believe me, I'll try not to!

The end of the day wasn't so happy, particularly for one of my friends. She was let go today. I feel bad for her. We all knew she was having trouble learning the information she needed to answer calls correctly, but we were hoping she was improving enough for them to keep her. Apparently not. None of us were expecting to see them escort her out, and it left all of us shocked and afraid. We are all newer than she is. What's to keep them from letting us go too? In fairness to my employer though, they don't spring this kind of stuff on you - if you're in danger of not passing probation, you'll know it, and she did. She knew she was in trouble, but she was hoping to hang on. I wish the best for her and a job that is more suited to her. Call center isn't for everyone. My supervisor tells me I'm doing very well at it, but I can see how I wouldn't want to be doing this 5 years from now too.

Plans for the weekend - finish my room! I got a good start on my room last weekend (the lack of internet access greatly helped!), but I have a looong way to go. I managed to get most of the clutter off the floor, but now I just have a pile of boxes and trash cans and chairs and stuff like that. Need to do something with it all and make room for my new table!

Stitching may make it in there somewhere, I don't know. We'll see. Driving too.

Have a great weekend everyone!
